A Heavenly Getaway For Two

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)

It was just the two of us in a cozy little hideaway not far from my house on Rabbit Road. Every morning we'd meet over coffee and listen to music. When the sun rose high in the sky, we'd bundle up and explore the town. Later, when evening fell, we'd light a fire and open the Word together. I listen better when it's just the two of us.

In my last post I was on my way out of town for a quiet retreat with the Lord. He always shows up, so I don't know why I was nervous. As I drove I prayed for his presence in the week to come, and I was not disappointed. Through his Word I heard the sound of his voice. Through the music of worship I joined the heavenly harmony. He dried all my tears and gave me the guidance I'd been looking for. Our God is an awesome God who answers the prayers of his children.

This child approached the Throne with equal parts desire for communion and desperation for direction. Slowly, anxiety gave way to serenity as the hours passed in study and worship and prayer. Over the course of the week, his directions became clear and his guidance secure. At the close I was loathe to leave him, yet anxious to get home to the husband I love. God lives in my house on Rabbit Road, too. It's just easier to hear him when his is the only voice in the room.

In the months to come I'll be writing a book and blogging about what God is teaching me through the process. I hope you'll stick with me and share what God is showing you. Please write me at rachel@friendshipwithjesus.com , or just post a comment on this page. May God bless and keep us as we walk the road together!

"Let us work as if success depended upon ourselves alone, but with the heartfelt conviction that we are doing nothing, and God everything."- St. Ignatius of Loyola.
